CLEAR PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CLUTTER TO CREATE MORE SPACE FOR WHAT MATTERS.

Updated: Jan 31, 2021

Organization is the beginning of mental peace! Imagine starting each day by showing up in the world as a more present, intentional, and confident version of yourself. Getting organized is easier than you think, and you can start feeling better today. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by clutter or disorganization in any area of your life, the next few tips are for you.

GET CLEAR WITH YOUR INTENTIONS

Before you dive into editing and organizing your home, it is crucial that you first get crystal clear on why you want to, and what your goals are. You’ll need a truly compelling WHY to help get you through housewares, papers, clothes, etc. so make sure it’s a strong one. It also helps to envision exactly what you want to create and achieve. This vision can help you stay focused and committed when resistance shows up in your head.

START SMALL

It doesn’t actually matter where you start, as long as you finish. You can change how you feel just by taking a little action each day such as starting to clean out a drawer or a closet!

Research shows that making the bed first thing in the morning can help set the tone for your day, instantly improve your mood, and boost productivity. This tiny action can lead to a big change.

ALL IT TAKES IS 5 MINUTES

Before going to bed tonight, put your clothes away. Just do it and do it for your future self! No more piles on the chair or dumped on the floor. No more in-between outfits taking up and cluttering your space. The next morning you'll wake up and feel so much more efficient in the long run, by having a tidy wardrobe and bedroom.

LEARN HOW TO STOP IMPULSE SHOPPING

Start noticing when and why the impulse to start shopping shows up. What triggers you the most? Are you bored and need a pick-me up? Are you feeling down and and want to elevate your mood? Are you scrolling down Net-A-Porter and feeling inspired?

Whatever it is, there are simple techniques you can implement to say goodbye to impulsive buying!

1. As simple as it sounds, if you see something you really want, put it back down and if you still want it in three days, than is all yours.

2. If you are feeling lonely or going through a negative emotion, get to the source of why you are down and try to solve it. Also you might want to reach out to a close friend. Choosing to deepen your connection with others will ultimately be far more rewarding that new dress.

3. Suddenly, you find yourself browsing your favourite online retailer to give you a lovely energy boost. Does it sound familiar? I am certainly guilty of that as well, it feels so good in the moment!

Thankfully there are many alternativities to give your brain a healthy dopamine boost such as tuning into your favourite music, trying out a new workout class, starting a new creative hobby or listening to an inspiring podcast. The list is endless!
